The Salem House of Prayer is a city-wide, multi-denominational, worship and intercessory ministry to the body of Christ in Salem, Oregon and the surrounding area. Our goal is to build a “corporate altar” of night and day prayer where we may stand before Jesus, unified and strengthened in our unyielding love for the worthy Son of Man. It’s a place where the first commandment, to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, is put into practice, resulting in outward expressions of loving your neighbor as yourself.

The Salem House of Prayer is a focal point for local churches to come together in unity and pray for revival of our ministries and for the spiritual awakening of our communities to the Gospel of Jesus. We will continually cry out for God to visit our city and release great love for Jesus, a massive harvest of souls, abundant signs and wonders, and a powerful spiritual movement among the youth. We are committed to city-wide involvement of this ministry and to partnering with the body of Christ in the city of Salem.
The Vision:
To offer up to God continuous, non-stop, 24 hour a day Worship and Intercession in the Spirit of the Tabernacle of David, until Jesus returns.
On 8/8/08, SHOP launched 24/7 prayer which continued non-stop for three and a half years. After this we felt the Lord leading us to cut back our hours for a time. Following a season of pruning and re-focusing, the Lord released us to move back into 24/7 in 2016. Although we have not yet been able to consistently keep our doors open around the clock, we have had an increased amount of prayer during the nightwatch this year, and will continue to partner with the Lord in reestablishing continual day and night prayer at SHOP.

Our Purpose:
1. To encounter God in a personal way that transforms us. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
2. To change the spiritual atmosphere of the city, opening the heavens for anointed evangelism and community transformation. (Psalm 133)
3. To contribute to unity within the corporate church in the area. (John 17:20-26)

Why 24/7?
There are numerous expressions of day and night prayer in scripture. We see “houses of prayer” (Isa. 56:7) as the context for day and night prayer and worship as well as the means by which God’s name will be made “great among the nations” (Mal. 1:11). At SHOP, it is our desire to align ourselves with heaven, viewing the Lord as worthy of incessant praise, just as the creatures and the elders do day and night around His throne (Rev. 4:8). Finally, we find that God is just and true; He answers the prayers of those who cry out to Him day and night (Luke 18:7).
Jesus said the harvest is plentiful, so his disciples should pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers. Throughout history the Church has often sent out missionaries to preach the gospel without first encountering the heart of God through a lifestyle of prayer with fasting. When our hearts deeply experience the love of God in the place of worship and intercession, we are strengthened and empowered to give ourselves to the work of the Kingdom with greater diligence and authority.
24/7 worship and prayer changes the spiritual atmosphere of a city, thus opening the heavens for more anointed evangelism and unity in the Church. This also allows us to encounter God in a personal way that transforms us. We believe that the Holy Spirit is orchestrating a global prayer strategy far eclipsing any other prayer movement in history that will result in an unprecedented harvest of souls in the nations.
The Salem House of Prayer is only one of many expressions of this prayer movement. Ministries are arising all over our land and the world that are literally offering supplication night and day before the Lord, helping the work of the harvest to move forward with power. In cities throughout the world, we believe it will become common to hear of worship and prayer ministries that continue non-stop day and night in the spirit of the tabernacle of David (see 1 Chr. 13).

F.A.Q.
Are you affiliated with IHOP-KC?
The short answer is no. While we have many friends that are part of the prayer movement in Kansas City, IHOP does not in any way oversee SHOP. However, IHOP has many teaching and training resources which they make readily available, and we have drawn on these both in our teachings at SHOP and in the process of developing our structure. We use the Harp and Bowl model of worship developed by Mike Bickle, and frequently stream the live worship feed from IHOP in our prayer room.
Are you affiliated with a church or denomination?
SHOP is non-denominational. We seek to serve and partner with all parts of the body of Christ in Salem. Our situation is somewhat unique in that we are not part of a church that started a prayer ministry; rather, we started out as a house of prayer formed by members of various churches.
When are there live worship sets?
Please see the calendar to find out when there are live worship sets and other events going on in the Prayer Room. We have a lot of open slots, so if you or someone you know would be interested in doing a worship set at SHOP, let us know!
