Something is Coming

Something is Coming

“…for I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and My blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams…” Isaiah 44:3-4

Have you ever had that feeling that something big is about to happen? Something significant but you just can’t say exactly what it is? That’s the way I feel right now. I have this deep abiding sense that something profound is about to break forth upon the earth. I cannot say exactly what it is, but I know it is approaching.

I have been given, I believe, a sense from the Lord that we are to prepare for this “something” that is coming. In the most general sense, it is both good and evil that is coming. Of course this is scriptural and we know that both good and evil will be increasing until the appearing of the Son of Man as King. But something specific is coming too. I believe it is the Lord Himself who is coming to do a great work. The Lord is going to come suddenly into His temple in the near future.

“…and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, He shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of His coming? and who shall stand when He appeareth? for He is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.” Malachi 3:1-3

We have in the church enjoyed a season of the mercy and increase of intimacy with the Lord. However, now I believe the Lord is coming to purify the “sons of Levi”, which is us, the priesthood of believers. This is not a bad thing, but a very good thing. This will come with the wonderful awe inspiring terror of the Lord. This is not terror in the sense of fleshly fear, but rather the awesome fear of the Lord which is clean.

“The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.” Psalm 19:9

It is time to seek the Lord until He rains down righteousness upon us. What is coming will require a new level of both purity and maturity. The Lord is going to do a new thing which cannot be done in the same old ways. A new thing demands a new way. I don’t mean new methods, but in the newness of a heart full of of purity and devotion to Christ.

The Lord is giving His people an opportunity to set themselves aside and go after Him for a short season before He arrives in increased power and demonstration. It is an invitation to seek the Lord:

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12

We are coming into a season in the Hebraic calendar, when three separate events will all happen at the same time. They are:

1. The Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanna) on Sept. 18th

2. The Ten days of Awe (a 10 day period in between the two feasts) on Sept. 19th -28th

3. The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippor) on Sept. 28th

Preparation for this time period is made by fasting and praying and examining the heart for the purpose of confessing sins, repenting of them, and then committing to walk in newness of Life.

Without going into great detail, The Feast of Trumpets is the beginning of the Jewish New Year. It represents to us a new beginning, and a change of season. The Ten Days of Awe are a time of Spirit led introspection and repentance, for the preparation of the coming days. The Day of Atonement is the sealing of those commitments to purity and devotion, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Things are about to change. Something dramatic is coming. Preparation is needed.

We invite the city Church of Salem to gather and pray during these Ten Days of Awe. Let us come together and lay down our agenda, and do one thing and one thing alone. Let us seek the Lord together. Let us pray, fast, and humble ourselves together. Let us ask for mercy and renewed dedication for the future. Let us believe for and receive a true change of heart.

“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray…” 2 Chr. 7:14

This is a call to a Solemn Assembly. 10-day prayer meetings that will help prepare us for a new beginning. We will many believers praying as one single church, 24/7, for ten straight days. We will come together each night during those 10 days, for corporate gatherings of worship and bowing down;

“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.” Psalm 95:6

Listen to a word recently given by Larry Randolph at Grace Center Church in Tennessee. I admit when I first heard it, I was not moved too much. I hear a lot of words. But then I heard the Lord whisper; “Listen to it again” and so I did. This time with a measure of faith instead of cynicism. The Spirit of the Lord fell on me then and I wept.

Let us come together and pray. Not under the banner of any one church, or even a group of churches, but under the banner of worthy name of Jesus Christ the Head of all the Churches. Let us seek His Face and His empowerment for holy living in the next coming season. Let us both rejoice and tremble before Him;

“Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling…” Psalm 2:11
